With the mortgage market in upheaval and house prices slowing, how is equity release likely to fare? Laverne Hadaway asked a lender and an adviser.
So far the equity release market appears to have been relatively unruffled by the sub prime crisis and subsequent credit crunch, but there have been casualties. Duncan Young, managing director of equity release provider Retirement Plus, points to Finance Ireland, an important player in the Irish equity release market. It has temporarily withdrawn its lifetime mortgage products because of the continuing problems in the banking and mortgage securitisation markets.
