Barring a very unlikely last-minute write-in campaign, Lane County's next district attorney has been selected without a vote being cast.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Alex Gardner is the only candidate to file for the office before the March 11 filing deadline, making him the de facto winner in the May 20 primary election. Current District Attorney Doug Harcleroad has said he won't seek another term.
Considering the county's dire financial outlook, it's no wonder no one else wants the job.
