COLUMN: RED SOX NOTES

Josh Beckett gave up one run in five innings yesterday in his final rehab start before rejoining the Red Sox.

Beckett's 2008 debut has been delayed by a sore back, which he suffered last month. He was scratched from a start on March 8 with back spasms and placed on the disabled list on March 19.

Pitching for the GCL Red Sox, he allowed two hits and struck out six batters against Lowell at Fort Myers, Fla. He threw 64 pitches, 47 for strikes.

Beckett will rejoin the Sox on Friday in Toronto and be evaluated. He is eligible to come off the disabled list tomorrow. If all goes well, he could pitch Sunday against Blue ...
