A FORMER prisoner of war who endured five years of captivity and survived the sinking of the Princess Victoria in 1953 has died.
Alexander 'Alec' Craig was born in Portpatrick, Scotland, in 1920.
An only child, he led an eventful life, surviving an enforced Nazi march across Europe and years in wartime work camps, the sinking of the MV Princess Victoria ferry and a serious accident in the 1970s in which he lost his right leg.
In 1938, with war approaching, he volunteered and was stationed with the Seaforth Highlanders (2nd Battalion). Private Craig was part of the troop surge in Dunkirk as the British Expeditionary Force oversaw the evacuation ...
