Dutch company Royal DSM NV is expanding its scope in keeping with its role as a global life sciences and materials sciences company. As part of this expansion, DSM Biomedical said it is launching a programme to develop polyesterbased thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) for use in medical devices.
The company is a supplier of TPEs, under the trade name Arnitel, said Business Director, Implant Solutions, Leo Smit. This knowledge of the material puts the company in an "excellent starting-position," he said.
"It will enable us to play a leading role in the development of tailored biomedical materials with wear-resistant, shock absorbing, elastomeric properties," claimed Smit.
