This author contributes to an excellent body of work on Marie Antoinette that has appeared in recent years. Hers, however, is distinctive because it chooses for a subject the queen's perfumer, whose life included far more than serving the court. Her expertise is remarkable because she is both a historian and a consultant to the perfume industry.
