OCTOBER 1973. David Cassidy was at number one, the Cod War was in full swing and the BBC had just switched on their new-fangled Ceefax information service.
And Paul Field, a Leeds schoolboy, was just about to take his first tentative steps into the world of rugby league with Hunslet under 17s.
Thirty five years later, Cassidy is not quite as hip as he once was, fish fingers are readily available from a freezer near you and Ceefax is the televisual equivalent of the square wheel.
