Planting bulbs in April is one of the simplest ways to make sure your garden gets off to a flying start at the end of winter. Bulbs are great value too - they cost much less than buying ready-grown plants.
For the best spring colour, you'll need to start planning now. Choose a good selection of early- and late-flowering spring bulbs, and plan which colours you'd like to see together.
Consider the height to which each type of plant will grow, so that smaller flowers aren't dwarfed by taller blooms. Then carefully follow the planting instructions of each type of bulb.
A good garden centre will offer a full range of bulbs. Always avoid soft, mushy or bruised bulbs.
