Metro fare dodgers across Wearside have netted fines of more than [pounds sterling]2,300 during the past four weeks.
But the cash collected from Sunderland's ticket cheats is just a fraction of the [pounds sterling]79,000 Nexus claimed from sneaky passengers caught across the North East last month.
Transport bosses successfully prosecuted 564 people for fare evasion.
All were taken to court after failing to stump up the cash for the standard [pounds sterling]20 penalty fare within 21 days after being caught with no valid ticket or pass.
They now face a fine of up to [pounds sterling]500 and a criminal record.
