CONCERNS over the force-feeding of geese to produce foie gras havesurfaced again after Britain's animal welfare minister said that EU laws madeit impossible to ban the sale of the delicacy.

However, agriculture junior minister Ben Bradshaw did urge consumers to boycottfoie gras in a move destined to infuriate chefs in top Irish restaurants andthe mainly French producers of the controversial product.

'The most effective action is for individuals not to buy foie gras if theydislike the way it is produced. We hope that public pressure will contribute toan end to this practice,' he said.
