HUNDREDS of tons of aluminium ingots are once again being transported by rail - just weeks after the consignments were controversially switched to road.
The first train, carrying up to 800 tons of aluminium bound for an Austrian firm, left the Anglesey Aluminium plant last weekend.
The return to rail comes less than two months after an unnamed east European haulage firm won the contract to transport the ingots to Austria.
No explanation has been given for the change of heart but last night the move was welcomed by environmental campaigners.
