AES plants generate 21% more electricity in Q1

ALMATY. April 8 (Interfax) - Power plants controlled by AES in Kazakhstan raised output 21% year-on-year to 5.765 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first quarter of 2008, the American energy group said.

The AES-Ekibastuz plant in the Pavlodar region generated 3.046 billion kWh, up from 2.158 billion kWh in the same period of last year.

Power plants in East Kazakhstan generated 1.202 billion kWh or electricity, down from 1.287 billion kWh a year previously, and 1.517 billion Gcalh of heat, up from 1.342 billion Gcalh.
