Wireless technology brings the State Library of Iowa online.

An aging building with thick walls, faulty wiring and asbestos dictated that the State Library of Iowa be automated using a wireless local area network. The instrument of choice was AT&T's Global Information Systems 3416XL server and Globalyst 25P, 520, 620 and 630 work stations. Ameritech Library Services' Horizon client-server software enables patrons to gain access to the library's files from anywhere in the state.

In 1895, Marconi invented the first practical wireless telegraph. Now, 100 years later, the State Library of Iowa is using the latest in wireless technology to provide the backbone for automating its collection.
