Article: Defense appropriations conference agreement passes House. (FY '96 Dept. of Defense appropriations bill)

Breaking a nearly two-month logjam, Senate and House defense appropriations conferees finally reached a compromise on the FY '96 DoD appropriations bill and pushed it through the House yesterday.

The Senate, at our press time, was expected to soon vote on the conference agreement. The expectation is that it will pass.

The bill provides DoD with $243.3 billion in budget authority and $242.9 billion in outlays. The threat still exists of a White House veto of the spending bill because it provides DoD with $7 billion more than the administration requested.
