NINETEEN EIGHTY-EIGHT. THE year of the "Bulldog." No, this isn't a tale dealing with a special Chinese year. Instead, it is the story of a pitcher and his underdog team that went on to win a World Series championship.
The pitcher in question was Orel Hershiser, better known as "Bulldog" by his teammates on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
When the '88 major league campaign began, the Dodgers were not favorites to win anything, including their own Western Division of the National League.
