Ongoing growth remains the big headline in the beverage alcohol business, but 2007 was a mixed year for the industry. Despite all three segments adding volume, spirits and beer both experienced slower rates of growth than in 2006, while wine sales continued to expand at a consistent pace.
The "trading up" trend that has been a key driver in the spirits industry slowed slightly in '07 with the weakening U.S. economy affecting sales, especially in on-premise establishments.
