A Little Backstory
The Greek key motif is as old as the hills. Really! It's older even than the Greeks it's named for, since variations are found on Egyptian tombs as well as archaic Peruvian weavings, on Chinese buildings and Aztec sculptures. Still, it's Greek to us. With those red and black pots, mosaic floors, mathematically perfect columns, and breathtaking temples, the Greeks made it wholly their own. Yet today, it's a little American, too. You can see it on our china, tables, chairs, doormats, and yes, tissue boxes. Though if we were to build our own equivalent of the Parthenon, you can bet you'd find it there.
