A DRIVER had to flee his van in the middle of an automatic car wash after smoke started billowing from the dashboard.
Forty-year-old Neil Johnson stopped off at the Arc drive-through car wash in Brighton Road, Lancing, after finishing work in Shoreham on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after the car wash started, he saw a wisp of smoke come from a vent in the van - then matters took a turn for the worse.
Mr Johnson, of Midhurst Drive, Goring, told the Herald: "Just over halfway through, the smoke started to billow through the vents and I realised the problem was bigger than I had thought.
