Cartoon images of war on terror adorn Pakistani 'war rugs'

Islamabad, Apr 10 (PTI) The motifs for classic "war rugs", a must buy for tourists visiting Pakistan, are changing.

Images of the campaign by mujahideen against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan are fast being replaced by cartoon figures of the American war on terror.

The war rugs, which are also used as prayer mats, were traditionally spun in Afghanistan in the 1980s shortly after the Soviets began bombing Afghan villages. Their production later moved to Peshawar in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, which has a sizable Afghani refugee population.
