Crime in Northamptonshire has fallen by almost 20 per cent in the last four years, but marked increases have been noted in burglaries, robberies and car thefts in the past 12 months.
Figures obtained by the Chronicle & Echo reveal an overall drop in crime of five per cent in 2007/08, compared with the previous 12 months, but detected burglaries of non-domestic properties has shot up by 91 per cent, almost doubling in a year.
Home burglaries dropped from 610 in 2006/07 to 459 in the following year, but successfully sanctioned detections of vehicle thefts rose from 554 in 2006/07 to 610 last year.
