National Poetry Month in April is a poetry delight for our nation. I dream of a triumphant return of poetry that is so prevalent that folks can even walk down the streets of their neighborhoods and hear lilting poetry recited on street corners.
I've never heard poetry shared in this particular thrilling manner, but I have read about the magic of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1930s and the wonder of the revolutionary 1960s, when the air was full of poetic words flowing everywhere. People could actually hear poetry outside their doors in Harlem, N.Y., and revolutionaries used poetry in the "hoods" to awaken the people to action. I truly love the verbal ...
