THE chairman of retailer Ethel Austin, which is set to change hands nextweek, has quit the business after objecting to the treatment of the board byits private backers.
Roger Pedder, a retail veteran who held the chairmanship at shoe firm C& JClark for more than a decade, is understood to have become increasinglyirritated after the owners of Ethel Austin failed fully to consult the boardabout recent plans to sell or refinance the business.
'They didn't really recognise the chairmanship or the normal processes involvedin running a business,' said a source familiar with the situation.
