Someone must be beholden to King County Executive Ron Sims. Why else would the announcement of a $60 million budget shortfall be relegated to the bottom left corner of Page B3 (Wednesday)? Even more upsetting, the County Council seems bent on hitting law enforcement with severe budget reductions to cover at least part of the deficit.
As a county taxpayer, I think this qualifies as front-page news or at least Page 1 of the Business section. I do pity "Squirrelman" and his plight (Tuesday front page), but if this kind of fiscal mismanagement continues, there will be a lot more of us in need of a used camper and a free place to park it.
