New Mexico Rep. Steven Schiff contributed to the popular belief that an unidentified crash in Roswell, NM, may have been a UFO sighting when he reported his investigation of documents at the General Accounting Office. (GAO). Schiff announced that the search yielded no Air Force records from the time that the sighting occurred, fueling the belief that the government may have been withholding information on a supposed UFO crash. However, Schiff also failed to report that the records are incomplete for a three-year period, and not confined to the immediate period after the event.
