TME: How is Hamas coping with the Israeli siege of Gaza and international sanctions against your organisation?

Ahmed Yousef: We are continuing to do our best to overcome the obstacles we face with the economic embargo and the siege. Of course we are unhappy with the situation but our priorities are to see that our people will survive and that they have enough food and medicine. Many government employees in Gaza are not receiving their salaries because the government of Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) in Ramallah decided to cut the salaries of people who continue to work with Hamas, so we have tried to compensate them financially.
