BOSTON - The onetime Red Sox fan, now a rising young starter for the New York Yankees, got his indoctrination into the rivalry between his former team by allegiance and his current team by draft results.
Phil Hughes, who shed his Red Sox fanhood after the Yankees drafted him in 2004, got shelled in his debut against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday night. The 21-year-old right-hander gave up seven runs and failed to record an out in the third inning. Trailing by six runs after three innings, the Yankees had a lot of ground to make up and never did in an 8-5 loss.
