Fund supermarkets are inhibiting the use of offshore funds for IFAs, research from HSBC Investments has suggested.
The firm said 84 per cent of intermediaries would recommend more offshore funds to their clients if they were available through supermarket platforms.
The research found 92 per cent of interviewees used offshore funds, although they made up just 11 per cent of their clients' portfolios. Those using funds domiciled overseas cited tax efficiency, client requests and the potential to diversify assets as the main motivators.
