The Mount Washington Resort has unveiled a $1.1 billion, 11-year project to build a high-end residential village with 938 units on 500 acres in Crawford Notch.

By a 2-1 margin, town meeting voters in Carroll approved a related zoning overlay district to facilitate the project.

A joint venture of real estate developers and investors bought the resort for $85 million in June 2006. That 1,900-acre deal included the historic Mount Washington Hotel, the Bretton Arms country inn, the Bretton Woods ski area, a motor lodge, a 27-hole golf course, tennis courts, a riding stable and the undeveloped land for the housing project.
