PHILADELPHIA _ It's shortly after 4 when John Street inhales the icy morning air and mounts his mountain bike. The streets around his modern townhouse in North Philadelphia are dark and deserted, almost as quiet as the countryside around the farm where he grew up near Norristown, Pa.
It's the start of another day, and as usual, Street is saying thanks for being alive by exercising his body. For the next 15 minutes or so, he'll pedal around the neighborhood, ``walking'' his Great Dane, Ginger, who forges ahead with the energetic lope of a greyhound.
His lungs and blood enriched with fresh oxygen, his muscles warm and supple, Street returns home, grabs a bottle ...
