You've probably seen professional wrestling on TV. Ferocious-looking men use "Helicopter Spins" and "Body Slams" to hurl their opponents to the mat. It's all for entertainment.
A Classic Sport
But another kind of wrestling is about genuine competition. Amateur wrestling is one of the oldest forms of formal athletic competition. It was introduced at the Olympic games in Greece in 704 B.C.
These days, wrestling is one of the most popular school sports. One reason is that wrestlers always compete against someone their size. Even small kids can become big stars. But while most anyone can wrestle, competitive wrestling requires a lot of preparation.
