Burned down Rye Cemetery Chapel should be restored to its former glory say Rye residents.
There has been a strong local reaction after indications from Rother District Council that it is unwilling to spend the [pounds sterling]10,000 excess on an insurance claim preferring, instead, to turn the remains of the chapel into a feature ruin.
The chapel was destroyed by an overnight arson attack earlier this year.
Mrs Jocelyn Rowe, of Rye Hill, said: "It would be a very great shame to allow the partially destroyed chapel in Rye Cemetery to be set aside as a 'feature ruin.
