Number of Honey Bee Colonies Continues to Decline in the U.S.

Apiary Inspectors of America Survey Finds 14 Percent Increase in Colony Losses Since Last Year

OAKLAND, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Honey bees in the U.S., responsible for pollinating more than 100 different crops worth $15 billion annually, continue to experience population decreases as evidenced by a study commissioned by Apiary Inspectors of America (AIA). The AIA commissioned the survey of U.S. beekeepers to estimate colony losses across the country between September 2007 and 2008.
