A comparison of the advantages and disadvantages found in both systems
Driven tools are added to machine tools of all kinds to increase the operating capabilities of the machine [ILLUSTRATION FOR FIGURE 1 OMITTED]. Driven tools consist of one or more rotating spindles driven by the machine spindle or by the turret drive motor, and include:
* Rotary drilling, milling, and tapping units (straight, right angle, adjustable angle),
* Multiple spindle drilling, milling, and tapping heads,
* Speed and torque increasers,
* Coolant inducers, and
* Full automatic turning and grooving heads.
