We give a complete picture regarding the behavior of positive solutions of the following important difference equation: [MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSION NOT REPRODUCIBLE IN ASCII], where [[alpha].sub.i], i [member of] {1,...,k}, and [[beta].sub.j], j [member of] {1,...,m}, are positive numbers such that [[SIGMA].sup.k.sub.i=1][[alpha].sub.i] = [[SIGMA].sup.m.sub.j=1][[beta].sub.j] = 1, and [p.sub.i], i [member of] {1,...,k}, and [q.sub.j], j [member of] {1,...,m}, are natural numbers such that [p.sub.1]
