DIRECTORS of stricken discount chain Ethel Austin were meeting administrators today as the Knowsley-based firm fights for its future.

The plan is to keep the 74-year-old business trading while a buyer is sought.

But there are fears up to 300 jobs and 30 shops may be axed nationwide in the short term.

Administrators were called in yesterday.

Workers on the afternoon shift were the first to learn the news that could result in big job losses among the 2,800-strongworkforce.
