Japan continues to be a major player in the global air conditioning industry, but in 1993 it yielded its first-place position to manufacturers in Southeast Asia. Production is humming in countries such as Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore.
The 1990-93 period saw a realignment of the top-three producing regions according to the Japan Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA).
