CHICAGO _ White Sox fans went into the off-season looking for reasons to believe the unsightly collapse of '95 simply would be a one-year aberration.
The free-agent marketplace was loaded with players who could fill existing holes. The Sox still possessed a young pitching staff that history suggests is talented enough to right itself after drifting well off course. And perhaps most important of all, Frank Thomas is still Frank Thomas.
