Wife 'told gardai of assault' before her disappearance
MEG Walsh walked into a garda station and claimed her husband had assaulted her the week before she disappeared, a court heard yesterday.
Her visit sparked a sequence of events over the next seven days as she started making arrangements to have her mortgage and life insurance transferred into her sole name.
Sgt Eric Gavigan said he spoke to Ms Walsh at Waterford garda station on September 22, 2006, when she alleged her husband John O'Brien had assaulted her a few days previously.
However, she did not want to proceed at that stage with a complaint against her husband.
