Virgin Media may cut off Internet pirates.

The UK's largest cable TV operator Virgin Media is in talks with the British record industry to impose a rule that it will cancel the broadband service of any subscriber that uses the service to illegally copy music, according to The Register.

The talks are between Virgin Media and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

If implemented, the move would a) put pressure on other ISPs such as BT to implement similar polices and b) substantially reduce the amount the record industry is spending on legal fees to sue individuals who are alleged to be engaging in illegal file swapping.
