Nokia inks pact; sets retail entry with major chain. (Nokia Mobile Phones, pact with Sears Brand Central departments)(Brief Article)

LAS VEGAS - Tampa, Fla.-based Nokia Mobile Phones, which said last fall it would begin making phones specifically for the retail market, has entered into its first agreement with a major national retailer.

The company said last week at WCES that it has begun selling the new retail model 636 as well as its popular basic model 232 in Sears Brand Central departments throughout the United States.

The agreement with Sears is part of Nokia's campaign to strengthen its brand name with consumers as well as broaden its channels of distribution. While Nokia phones on until now have been available m some storefronts, it has been on a very limited basis.
