In a season of mixed blessings for retailers, discount department stores in Northeast Ohio are expected to fare better than their counterparts nationwide, but traditional department stores aren't, according to a new survey from the Cleveland office of Arthur Andersen & Co.
The 10-city survey of 4,241 consumers, including 404 from Greater Cleveland, showed discounters locally will receive an average of 25 cents of each retail holiday dollar spent this season, versus 20 cents spent in similar stores nationwide.
By contrast, department stores in this market will attract an average of 43 cents per local holiday dollar spent, which would be slightly lower than the ...
