In a recent survey, the majority of women interviewed said their doctors advised them to get a mammogram and Pap smear. However, only 38 percent said their doctors talked to them about preventing heart disease. This may be doing women a great disservice. According to the latest American Heart Association (AHA) Heart and Stroke Statistics 2007 Update, heart disease is an enormous problem among women in the United States.

While women may fear breast cancer, heart disease is far more lethal. Statistics from 2004 (the year on which the 2007 update was based) found that one in every 30 women died of breast cancer, while one in every six died of heart disease. More ...
