High levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) will help protect against heart disease and stroke even if your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels aren't yet to the recommended level of under 70 mg/dL, according to a report in the Sept. 27 New England Journal of Medicine. The study showed that the incidence of heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular problems was 40 percent lower among clinical trial participants who had the highest HDL levels, regardless of their LDL levels. ...
