Relatively unknown, feeding disorders refer to an individual's resistance to eating. The New York Times recently reported research that indicates most individuals suffering from feeding disorders are children, because of a delayed association of hunger with the act of eating. Babies who are fed by a feeding tube after birth are prime candidates for feeding disorders. Those who do not advance to eating solid food by a certain period of time, around 8 months, may not learn to eat without choking, suggesting that eating is not instinctive, but learned.
