A NEW house is to be built from the ruins of one of Whitby's most important historic buildings, now regarded as an eyesore.
The building, the Grade 1 listed Brewhouse near Whitby Abbey, is now a top priority on English Heritage's Register of Buildings at Risk.
Part of the 13th Century abbey precinct walls and of a 16th Century brewhouse were used in its construction.
When it fell into disrepair in the 19th Century it became a water reservoir but again became abandoned and was used as a rubbish tip.
