Magdalena Lewy Boulet, a polish emigre, who was sworn in as a United States citizen on Sept. 11, 2001, yesterday became America's newest red-white-and-blue heroine when she finished second in the U.S. Olympic women's marathon trials and earned a trip to the Beijing Games.
The 34-year-old Lewy Boulet led from the Boylston Street starting line for the next 23 1/2 miles before she was caught by Waltham-born, prerace favorite Deena Kastor as they passed MIT on the fourth and final loop of the 26-mile, 385-yard course.
