Deena Kastor refused to succumb to her own sense of miscalculation in yesterday's U.S. Olympic women's marathon trials.
Kastor recovered from a slow early race with an inspired second half over the flat windswept 26.2-mile course that looped through Boston and Cambridge to capture the event in two hours, 29 minutes and 35 seconds. Kastor qualified for her third Olympics and will compete in her second Olympic marathon at the Beijing Games.
Kastor is the American record-holder (2:19:36) and captured the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Games. She will travel to China with darkhorse runner-up Magdalena Lewy Boulet, who finished ...
