The Council's attitude is "scandalous". That was the first official reaction by members of the European Parliament after the member states created a stalemate on two of the legislative proposals of the Erika III package on maritime safety at the Transport Council on 7 April. The reaction was voiced by Liberal MEPs Dirk Sterckx (Belgium), coordinator of the ALDE group, and Paolo Costa (Italy), chair of the Transport Committee. Both are rapporteurs on Erika proposals, but not on those specifically concerned by the states' negative stance (the proposal on traffic monitoring for Dirk Sterckx and on company liability for Paolo Costa).
