In order to save the service money, the Air Force plans to shuffle three fighter squadrons in mid-1996 and thus alter its composite wing structure, Air Force officials said last week.
Last Monday, the Air Combat Command issued a force structure memorandum that consolidates two squadrons of Block 40 F-16s, currently based at two separate bases, at one base, and moves a squadron of Block 50 F-16s to another base where there are already Block 50s.
Because the crux of the plan is to group together fighters of the same block at the same base, the result will be reduced maintenance and logistical costs for the service. But one industry source told Defense Daily that ...
