Two top officials in the administration of New York State Gov. George Pataki said yesterday that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey should consider providing subsidies for New York City's mass transit capital needs.
In making their comments, the officials cited alleged inequities between funding provided by the authority to New York and New Jersey, which come at a time when huge cuts are being made in subsidies to New York City's transit system.
The remarks, made at The Bond Buyer's First Annual Public Finance Conference, mark the first time Pataki officials have weighed in on the matter.
